Your iNaturalist data belongs in your Lightroom catalog.

iNat Publish Pro syncs species names, taxonomic hierarchies, GPS coordinates, and research-grade status from iNaturalist directly into Lightroom Classic — matched to the right photos automatically.

You've got 20,000 nature photos. Good luck finding the Painted Bunting.

You know the drill. You shot something beautiful in the field. You uploaded it to iNaturalist. The community confirmed it — research grade. But back in Lightroom, that photo is sitting in a folder with 800 other images and barely any useful keywords.

Your iNaturalist profile is meticulous. Your Lightroom catalog is a mess. And the only bridge between them is you, a browser tab, and a lot of copy-pasting.

That's what iNat Publish Pro fixes.

What it does.

Taxonomic Keyword Sync

Pulls species names from your iNaturalist observations and writes them as Lightroom keywords. Search your catalog by common name, scientific name, or both.

Full Taxonomic Hierarchy

Builds complete classification from Kingdom through Species in your Lightroom keyword tree so you can filter at any level.

GPS & Location Data

Syncs observation coordinates into your photo metadata, upgrading location accuracy when iNaturalist has better data.

Research-Grade Status

Tracks which photos are backed by community-verified identifications so catalog filtering mirrors observation quality.

Smart Auto-Matching

Matches observations to photos with a configurable scoring algorithm based on timestamp proximity and GPS distance.

Batch Sync

Processes your entire catalog in one pass so you can sync 500 to 5,000 observations without one-at-a-time matching.

Three steps. Five minutes. A searchable catalog.

1

Connect

Paste your iNaturalist API token into plugin settings. Your credentials stay local and never pass through inat-tools servers.

2

Match

The plugin scores potential pairs using timestamp and GPS proximity. High-confidence matches are paired automatically.

3

Sync

Taxonomic keywords, GPS data, and research-grade status flow directly into Lightroom metadata for searchable results.

How the matching actually works

For every photo in your Lightroom catalog, iNat Publish Pro scores it against observations with a 20-level time score (0 to 120 minutes) and a 20-level distance score (1 to 1,000 meters). These combine into a confidence percentage with dynamic weighting. Highest confidence above the threshold (default 55%) wins.
